Sam Cahill

Inspector - Army - Post 5202


Samantha “Sam” Cahill was born in Hartford, Connecticut and joined the United States Army in 2012. She deployed to CENTCOM three times (once in support of Operation Spartan Shield and twice in support of Operation Inherent Resolve), all three qualifying her for the VFW. Sam still actively serves in the U.S. Army Reserve as an Acquisitions Officer.


A Gold Legacy Life member, Sam has led her Post to regional and national accolades. During her Command, her Post was recognized as a 2024-2025 All-American Post and received the 2025 National Community Service Post Award for its relief efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. In recognition of her leadership, Sam was named the 2025 recipient of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States Distinguished Service Award.

Sam’s military awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal with 1 oak leaf cluster, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal with 4 oak leaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal with Bronze Star Device, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with M device and hourglass device, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon with 2 device, Army Reserve Components Overseas Training Ribbon, and Norwegian Foot March Badge (silver).


Sam is a graduate of Saint Joseph College, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in History, and the University of Hartford, earning a Master of Arts degree in Communication. She resides in Canton, NC with her spouse and dog, whom she rescued from Camp Titin during her first deployment.
