Annie enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1978 and graduated Boot Camp at Paris Island with honors. She attended Comm school at 29 Palms and graduated first in the class, with another meritorious promotion and was assigned to the 1st  Marine Division Headquarters and once again received a meritorious promotion, for outstanding leadership and accomplishments as the Admin Chief for the Headquarters CEO.

After being med boarded out in 1981, she later joined the reserves in 1987 and was attached to the 4th Civil Affairs Group out of Anacostia Naval Air Station, outside of D.C., where she was later activated for Desert Shield/Desert Storm and deployed to Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

One of only 5 women to accompany the ground assault into Kuwait City, Annie served at the acting Admin Officer for the Forward Command Post and received the Navy Commendation Medal. Due to a reinjury of her ACL, she was again med boarded out and returned to civilian endeavors where she excelled in the automotive industry, running large dealerships and later managing 5 states for General Motors.

Annie joined the VFW in 2017 and has served with distinction as the first woman post commander in Holly Ridge North Carolina, two time All American and All State Post Commander, two time All American and All State District Commander and All American State Commander in 2024/2025, earning the honor of Triple Crown.

Annie Also serves as an officer in the Military order of the Cooties for Pup Tent 2 in Jacksonville NC and is currently a Gold Legacy Member of Post 7288 in Calabash.
